Brief CV: I trained in Nutritional Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health (Prof. Willett). I obtained a lecturer position in 1990 and since then I have taught epidemiology to medical and postgraduate students. I have also directed Masters and Doctorate programs in Public Health at the UMH. I am the director of the Group of Nutritional Epidemiology (EPINUT-UMH) and our main aim is to research the relationship between diet and health problems. To this end, we have created and validated Food Frequency Questionnaires and specific software to evaluate the effect of diet in different population groups (Vioque, 2007; 2013; 2016). I have been a principal investigator in European multi-center projects such as the EUREYE Study (V Framework Program-EU) on macular degeneration of the retina, and national projects such as the prospective cohort study Infancy and Environment (INMA Study). We also participated in the PREDIMED-PLUS Study, a randomized intervention study to assess whether the Mediterranean diet, physical activity and other healthy lifestyles reduce cardiovascular risk. I was responsible for the Health and Nutrition Survey of Valencian. I now participate in international consortiums such as the European Joint Programming Initiative DEDIPAC “A healthy diet for a healthy life”; the Global Burden of Disease initiative for the study of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and other health problems worldwide; and the study of esophageal and pancreatic cancer (StoP and PANC4 Consortiums).
I participate in Group 6 of Epidemiology and Public Health CIBER. I have completed six five-year of teaching, five six-year research periods, and I have published more than 180 articles with an H index of 41 according to SCOPUS (November 2017) in journals indexed in JCR ISI-Thompson: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=vioque+j
